Kencholia Isidore Yesi

Isidore: The Man

Kencholia Isidore Yesi

St Isidore High School was created in memoriam of Kencholia Isidore Yesi (born Yesi Isidore Chenyi) who died in June 2011 in a fatale car accident in Shanghai, China.

Kencholia Isidore Yesi was born in the rural plains of Ndop in the North West Region of Cameroon. His father, Kencholia Lawrence Chenyi, was a Teacher and his mother Regina Binyui was a farmer and both were devour Catholic Christian for whom the sacraments, Rosary to the blessed Virgin Mary and daily mass were and are still key aspects of life. Isidore was the sixth in a family of five boys and two girls.

Isidore Yesi studied in Catholic schools and early in life, he felt God was calling him to the service of Priesthood. He attended St Aloysius Minor Seminary (SAMS) Kitiwum for seven years. Upon completion of high school, he proceeded to the Claretian Seminary in Nigeria to continue his studies towards becoming a priest of the Roman Catholic Church. Two years into his studies, Isidore didn't fill convinced that God was still calling him to this vocation. He gave up and returned to Cameroon.

Years later, Isidore traveled to China where he worked with kids as a teacher. These were some of the most satisfying years in his life as he was fond of telling stories about his wonderful experiences with the children.  While in China, Isidore maintained a life of prayer and meditation, and always had a Rosary in his company. In the car accident in which he suffered Third degree burns and died, the car was beyond repairs and all its contents got lost. But, his Rosary was found unconsumed by the fire that killed him.

Isidore valued a life of happiness, hard work and charity. He was buried next to his father, Kencholia Lawrence Chenyi, at the St Theresa Catholic Church cemetery in Bamessing, Ndop, Cameroon.

in 2014, Dr. Oscar C. Labang honoured the memory of Isidore by creating the St Isidore High School, and through the hard work and dedication of Mr. Nfecho Marcellus Chenyi the school was approved and authorized by the Cameroon Ministry of Secondary Education.  St Isidore operates as a nonprofit secondary and high school dedicated to providing quality  and transformative education.
